Despite setbacks, critics, Lady Gaga basks in the limelight

Polarizing dance/pop diva Lady Gaga may have just had her Live Nation-sponsored tour with Kanye West cancelled, but perhaps that’s a good thing.

After all, associations with the harried mike-thug behind the assault on good taste at the MTV Video Awards Show aren’t exactly improving anyone’s Q-ratings right now.

Certainly she’s kicking up a good deal of press following her appearance on Saturday Night Live, with mentions extending even to the geek watershed Attack of the Show. The musical numbers, which featured another of her incredible outfits, this one so outrageous it interfered with her performing on piano, were her usual high-quality, although at times it seemed she forgot she was playing to a television audience and was conducting a concert instead.

Then there were the skits. In a reboot of the once-popular Deep House Dish, Gaga was featured alongside a slinky Madonna in a dance-off that eventually turned into a cat-fight. You can do worse than vie for screen-time with the Material Girl.

But perhaps the best moment was saved for the end, when she sported a knock-off of the outfit she wore on her recent cover of Rolling Stone magazine, only to find  comic Andy Samberg wearing the same.

Upcoming is yet another star-turn for the controversial performance artist/singer, as she’ll share the stage with President Barack Obama himself, at the annual Human Rights Campaign dinner.

As the paparazzi continue to flock, Gaga is facing down revelations of photos before she was famous, and still going by her real name – Stefanie Germanotta – as she auditioned for the British version of the MTV show Boiling Points.

That hasn’t stopped her from capturing hearts and minds, though. Just in time for the holiday season comes her collaboration with Monster Audio on a set of high-end headphones, Heartbeats by Lady Gaga.

And perhaps the highest compliment is a feature on the debut of the LOLcats-inspired music review.

We should all be so lucky.
